When I planned the Blossoms Across Time series, I pictured four skies — this is the midnight chapter. "Nocturne in Blossoms" places dozens of pale pink petals against a near-black sky, the moon's glow pooling through the canopy like a quiet lantern 🌙. A weathered, gnarled tree trunk extends from the lower edge of the canvas toward that light; along its length I layered preserved bark fragments, real moss and lichen to add tangible age and texture 🌿🍃.
Executed as mixed-media on archival canvas, the piece uses acrylic textured washes for nocturnal depth, hand-painted petals to map the blossom’s passage, and pressed botanicals to emphasize touch and time. Compositionally there’s a nod to Ukiyo-e framing and asemic mark-making — a balance between intention and instinct that runs through my practice.
This work reads as resolution: a bloom at full night, resilient and luminous. It invites close viewing — follow the tree truck to the moon, notice the lichen catching light, consider the passage from dawn to midnight in the quartet of skies. I’ll be showing the series at Bainbridge Island Art Festival this summer — I’d love to hear which sky speaks to you 🌸✨🕯️.
