About Me

I'M JANE BEISELL

As a Pacific Northwest native, nature is at the heart of my creative practice. I work in mixed media, combining watercolor, acrylics, and ink with real pressed botanicals—flowers, leaves, and foliage preserved and layered into textured compositions. My work celebrates the delicate beauty and resilience of the natural world, particularly the intricate details of miniature flowers and wild Pacific Northwest landscapes.

My artistic foundation began with calligraphy, then calligraphy brush painting, which taught me to appreciate fine lines and deliberate mark-making. Over time, I expanded into acrylics and watercolor, eventually arriving at my current practice: an evolving exploration where traditional painting techniques meet the organic textures of preserved flora. Each piece is both a painting and a botanical specimen—an homage to the ephemeral beauty I find in nature.

I continue to refine my approach through a blend of formal training and self-directed learning, drawing inspiration from online communities and contemporary mixed media artists. This keeps my practice fresh and connected to the wider art world.

In my debut year working with botanicals, The Tamaracks' Quail was jury-selected for the 2024 Chewelah Winterfest for the Arts—an exciting milestone in my growing journey. For me, creating art is an immersive, joyful process, and I hope that joy resonates with those who experience my work.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores the interplay of nature and spirituality through mixed media—blending ink, paint, pressed botanicals, textiles, and found objects into layered, textured compositions. Each piece invites quiet reflection, drawing the viewer into moments of stillness and connection with the natural world.

I'm drawn to the ephemeral: delicate flowers preserved mid-bloom, asemic marks that suggest language without words, materials that carry their own histories. My process is intuitive and experimental—pressing botanicals, layering mediums, allowing unexpected combinations to emerge. The act of making is as meaningful as the finished work, honoring the fragile, transient beauty of existence

Through my art, I aim to create spaces for reverence and contemplation—reminders that wisdom and beauty often reside in small, overlooked moments. My hope is that viewers will pause, look closely, and rediscover the quiet wonders surrounding them.
