When I create, I aim for something that holds a moment longer than memory — a small ceremony between observation and craft. “Hovering Light” began as a meadow encounter: a hummingbird hovered beside slender stems, and the light on the yellow blossoms felt almost musical. I pressed the penstemon to keep its shape and color, then layered watercolor washes for the background and detailed acrylic ink to let the bird and bloom speak to one another — a meeting of movement and preservation ✨🐦.
Technically, this piece is mixed-media on canvas: real pressed yellow penstemon integrated into transparent watercolor layers, with delicate acrylic ink accents and fine textural work to suggest air and distance. The composition is intentionally minimal — an open field of soft tone that amplifies the suspended motion of the hummingbird and the grounded presence of the pressed stems. The result is a contemplative image about the speed of moments and how stillness can make them last.
This work sits within my practice of combining traditional preservation techniques with contemporary illustration — a balance between cultural craft and modern materials. Would this pause in the meadow find a place on your wall? Share what it brings to mind — I’d love to hear your thoughts 🌼📜💫
