“Frida Kahlo Floral” is a mixed media portrait by Jane Beisell of Left Brain Creative, inspired by Frida Kahlo. Frida famously wove fresh flowers into her hair, so I gave her a crown of real pressed blooms gathered from my property in NE Washington: golden and orange petals, delicate white clusters, and soft mauve flowers. Gold earrings and a braided gold necklace finish the look, against a striking split background of magenta and turquoise. 💗🩵
The original painting is acrylic on canvas with real pressed flowers layered into the painting by hand. This print reproduces them in a smooth, flat finish.
This open edition print is available in a range of finishes to suit your space:
- Fine art paper: Epson Cold Press Bright White watercolor paper, for a soft, textured, painterly feel
- Lustre photo paper: Fuji Professional Lustre, with rich color and a subtle sheen
- Canvas gallery wrap: ready to hang, no frame needed
- Metal print: high-gloss, vivid, and modern
- Acrylic print: 1/8" acrylic, for depth and a sleek gallery look
- Wood print: natural finish, with warmth and organic texture
What stories do these colors and flowers evoke for you? 🌼💖
Inspiration for this painting: In October 2019 we visited Mexico City for Day of the Dead/ Día de los Muertos festivities. While there, we toured the Casa Azul and purchased a Frida 'sugar skull' painting from a nearby street vendor. The painting has had pride-of-place in our sunroom, so I see it every day in its best light! When my own painting style morphed into incorporating dried, pressed flowers, there was an 'aha moment' looking at Frida's trademark floral headbands. The execution of the 3D floral arrangement in “Frida Kahlo Floral” was challenging, but I think the results are eye-catching.
