"Frida Kahlo Floral" is a captivating portrayal that celebrates the intersection of culture and nature. This mixed media artwork features a striking portrait adorned with a bouquet of colorful flowers, symbolizing resilience and femininity. The vibrant hues of pink and teal create a dynamic backdrop, enhancing the intricate details of the floral crown. Each flower tells a story, reflecting the artist's journey through diverse cultural landscapes.
Crafted with a blend of traditional techniques and modern aesthetics, this piece invites viewers to connect with their own identities and experiences. The use of real botanicals adds a tactile dimension, making it not just a visual feast but an emotional experience.

"Frida Kahlo Floral" -- The original 12" by 12" acrylic painting of Frida Kahlo on canvas incorporates dried &/or pressed botanicals in Frida's headwrap and pendant -- Oregon Grape (yellow cluster); Garden Cosmos (burgundy, orange); Balsamroot (large yellow); Shrubby Cinquefoil (small yellow); Pearly Everlasting(white); Sea Lavender (purple); Woody Nightshade (purple, yellow -- on a vibrant fuchsia and turquoise background.
Inspiration for this painting: In October 2019 we visited Mexico City for Day of the Dead/ Día de los Muertos festivities. While there, we toured the Casa Azul and purchased a Frida 'sugar skull' painting from a nearby street vendor. The painting has had pride-of-place in our sunroom, so I see it every day in its best light! When my own painting style morphed into incorporating dried, pressed flowers, there was an 'aha moment' looking at Frida's trademark floral headbands. The execution of the 3D floral arrangement in “Frida Kahlo Floral” was challenging, but I think the results are eye-catching.
